Special facts

The grivennik of 1860–1866 in 750 silver. In 1861, 19.3 million were issued, some of them struck in France, at Paris and Strasbourg.

About the period

The coins of Alexander II belong to the time when small change got cheaper: after the Crimean War silver was leaving circulation, and the fineness of the small silver was lowered first to .750 and in 1867 to .500. The 1867 designs — small silver from 5 to 20 kopecks and copper from 1 to 5 kopecks — were struck unchanged until 1917. More about the period “Alexander II”, 1855 — 1881
