Special facts

The kopek of 1948–1956 with sixteen turns of ribbon: after 1940 there were sixteen union republics. A kopek of 1957 with the old sixteen-ribbon arms is also known.

About the period

The coins of the USSR of 1924–1958 run from the first coins with the arms of the USSR to the last coins before the reform of 1961. Over these years the metals changed, and the arms on the coins were redesigned to follow the number of union republics. More about the period “Early USSR”, 1924 — 1958
