Canada — Issue of 1986-1991
The Birds of Canada series consists of notes from 1986 to 1991: the 2 and 5 dollars of 1986, 50, 100 and 1,000 dollars of 1988, 10 of 1989 and 20 of 1991. There is no paper dollar in it any more, as the loonie coin had replaced it. The face shows the queen on the 2, 20 and 1,000 dollars, and Laurier, Macdonald, Mackenzie King and Borden on the others.
The backs show birds: an American robin on the 2 dollars, a belted kingfisher on the 5, an osprey on the 10, a common loon on the 20, a snowy owl on the 50, a Canada goose on the 100 and a pine grosbeak on the 1,000 dollars. The higher denominations, from 20 dollars up, gained an optical device that changes colour when tilted. The 1,000 dollars of this series was the last: its issue was stopped in 2000.
