Special facts
The commemorative 10 dollars for the 150th anniversary of Confederation was issued on 1 June 2017 in an issue of 40 million, about one for every Canadian. It is the first Canadian note with four portraits: John A. Macdonald, George-Étienne Cartier, Agnes Macphail, the first woman elected to Parliament, and the Blackfoot chief and senator James Gladstone. The back shows five landscapes, from the mountains of British Columbia to the northern lights.
About the period
The Frontier series is Canada’s first set of polymer notes: the 100 dollars appeared in November 2011, the 50 and 20 in 2012, and the 10 and 5 in 2013. A large transparent window holds a metallic portrait and a building that can be seen right through the note; the portraits on the face are the familiar ones.
