State treasury notes of the 1934 design
Three denominations -- 1, 3 and 5 roubles, introduced in 1934, part of the same family of People's Commissariat of Finance treasury notes as the earlier 1924-1928 gold-rouble and rouble issues, but without a cashier's signature -- only the Commissar of Finance signed. Each denomination has two issues: the first (1934-1937), signed by Commissar Grinko; the second (from 1937, after Grinko's arrest) is printed unsigned. Printed by Goznak using the multicolour Orlov technique. Remained in circulation until the 1947 currency reform.
Appearance
Dark blue-green print, red serial numbers. The USSR coat of arms at top centre in a cartouche, an ornamental guilloché frame, the value spelled out in the union-republic languages. The reverse has the denomination at upper centre. No watermark. Size: 120 × 60 mm.
