Special facts

A 2014 rouble with the graphic sign of the rouble, the letter "Р" with a horizontal stroke. The Bank of Russia adopted the sign in December 2013. The design was chosen by an open vote on the Bank of Russia website, and in 2014 the sign was added to the Unicode standard; it resembles both the Cyrillic “Р” and a Latin “P” with a bar, like other currency signs.

About the period

Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
