Special facts

The ruble is smaller across than the fifty kopecks but heavier, 5.6 grams; unlike the kopecks, it is silver-coloured.

Coins of the 2009 pattern

The coins from 1 kopeck to 2 roubles were put into circulation on 1 July 2016 with the redenomination of the Belarusian rouble (10,000 to 1); the new currency got the code BYN. All of them are dated 2009, although they had lain unreleased for several years. The coat of arms on the coins was updated in 2021: the coins with the new arms have narrower rays and a flat star; they were struck in 2021 and released in 2022, and the date on them stays 2009. A mint set "My Country — Belarus" with brilliant uncirculated coins was also issued (1 July 2016); 35,000 sets of the kopeck coins were made.

About the period

Coins of the Republic of Belarus: the country had no circulation coins until 2016, so most of the output consists of commemorative and collector coins of the National Bank, issued since 1996. More about the period “Republic of Belarus”, 1992 — to present
