Flag of the Tajik SSR
1991–1992 Flag of the Tajik SSR For its first year of independence Tajikistan used the flag of the Tajik SSR: red with white and green stripes and a hammer and sickle.

since 1992 Red-white-green flag with crown The flag was adopted on 24 November 1992. The wide white stripe bears a crown and seven stars; the crown recalls the word “taj”, from which, by one interpretation, the name of the Tajiks derives.

1991–1992 Emblem of the Tajik SSR Until the end of 1992 the independent republic kept the emblem of the Tajik SSR, with the hammer and sickle in a wreath of wheat and cotton.
Winged lion
1992–1993 Winged lion In 1992–1993 the emblem was a winged lion against mountains and rays of sunlight, an ancient symbol akin to the Iranian “lion and sun”.
State emblem of Tajikistan
since 1993 State emblem of Tajikistan The emblem was adopted on 28 September 1993: a crown and seven stars in the rays of the sun above mountains, a wreath of wheat and cotton bound with a ribbon in the flag colours, and an open book below.

Music: Suleiman Yudakov · Words: Gulnazar Keldi

Suleiman Yudakov wrote the music in 1946 for the anthem of the Tajik SSR. The anthem with new words by Gulnazar Keldi was adopted on 7 September 1994, at the height of the civil war.
