What happened in 1704

• Minting of the silver rouble began. Until then the rouble had been only a unit of account, with no coin of that value.
• Russian troops took Dorpat and Narva.
• The fort of Kronschlot was consecrated on a shoal off Kotlin Island, the beginning of the future Kronstadt.
• The Admiralty shipyard was founded in Saint Petersburg.
