Canada — Issue of 2011-2018 (2011 — to present)

The Frontier series is Canada’s first set of polymer notes: the 100 dollars appeared in November 2011, the 50 and 20 in 2012, and the 10 and 5 in 2013. A large transparent window holds a metallic portrait and a building that can be seen right through the note; the portraits on the face are the familiar ones.

The backs celebrate the country’s achievements: medical discoveries on the 100 dollars, the research icebreaker Amundsen in the Arctic on the 50, the Vimy memorial on the 20, the Canadian passenger train in the Rockies on the 10, and the Canadarm2 and Dextre robotic arms on the 5 dollars. The series also includes the commemorative 20 dollars of 2015 for the record reign of Elizabeth II, the 10 dollars of 2017 for the 150th anniversary of Confederation, and the 10 dollars of 2018 with Viola Desmond, Canada’s first vertical note.
