Canada — Issue of 2001-2011

The Canadian Journey series: the 10 dollars of 2001, 5 dollars of 2002, and 20, 50 and 100 dollars of 2004. The portraits are the familiar ones, Laurier, Macdonald, the queen, Mackenzie King and Borden, and each note has a theme of its own: children at play and winter games, remembrance and peacekeeping, arts and culture, nation building, exploration and innovation.

On the 5 dollars children skate and play hockey beside lines from Roch Carrier’s story “The Hockey Sweater”; on the 10 a veteran, poppies and John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields”; on the 20 sculptures by Bill Reid; on the 50 the Famous Five monument and Thérèse Casgrain; on the 100 an old map and a satellite image. The series introduced raised dots for the blind, and in 2005–2006 the 10 and 5 dollars gained a holographic stripe and a new thread.
