Canada — Issue of 1911-1917
Dominion notes of the early years of George V: the 1 dollar of 1911 with Earl and Countess Grey, the 5 dollars of 1912, the first government five-dollar notes, with the Ocean Limited train in the Wentworth Valley of Nova Scotia, the 2 dollars of 1914 with the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, the 1 dollar of 1917 with Princess Patricia of Connaught, and the large 500 and 1,000 dollars of 1911 with Queen Mary and King George V.
The back of the 2 dollars shows the royal arms surrounded by the shields of the nine provinces and a maple bough. The notes were printed by the American Bank Note Company in Ottawa; varieties are told apart by signatures, the Department of Finance seal and series letters. The 1911 500 dollars is one of the most valuable Canadian notes: in 2021 a privately held example sold at auction for 528,750 Canadian dollars.
