Canada — Issue of 1897-1902

In 1897 the government moved note printing to the American Bank Note Company, which had a plant in Ottawa, and a new series appeared: the 1 dollar of 1897–1898 with the Countess and Earl of Aberdeen and a log drive, the 2 dollars of 1897 with the Prince of Wales, the future Edward VII, and fishermen in a boat, the 4 dollars of 1900 and 1902 with Lord and Lady Minto, a new 25 cents of 1900 and the 1,000 dollars of 1901.

The 1900 4-dollar note is known for a mistake: the Sault Ste. Marie locks on it are shown from the American side, and the design was corrected in 1902. In 1898 the dollar changed colour so as not to be confused with the 2 dollars, while the threshing scene on the back of the 2 dollars was printed in red-brown on the first 700,000 notes and in dark brown on the rest.
