Flags

White-red-white flag
1991–1995 White-red-white flag The white-red-white flag was first raised in 1918, and on 19 September 1991 the Supreme Soviet adopted it as the state flag of independent Belarus. It was replaced after the referendum of 14 May 1995.
Red-green flag with ornament
since 1995 Red-green flag with ornament The red-green flag with a Belarusian ornament by the hoist was adopted after the 1995 referendum. It is close to the flag of the Byelorussian SSR but without the hammer, sickle and star; the ornament was refined in 2012.

Coats of arms

Pahonia
1991–1995 Pahonia A horseman with a raised sword and a shield bearing a six-pointed cross, the ancient arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It was adopted as the state emblem on 19 September 1991; the Pahonia appears on the backs of the first Belarusian banknotes.

1995–2020 State emblem of Belarus The emblem adopted after the 1995 referendum: a green outline of the country in the rays of the sun above the globe, a wreath of ears of wheat with clover and flax bound with a ribbon in the flag colours, and a red star at the top.
Updated state emblem
since 2020 Updated state emblem In 2020 the emblem was updated: the outline of the country became gold and the globe was turned so that Belarus is at its centre. Circulation coins with the new emblem were struck in 2021.

Anthems

Music: Nestar Sakalouski · Words: Mikhas Klimkovich and Uladzimir Karyzna

Nestar Sakalouski wrote the music for the anthem of the Byelorussian SSR, adopted in 1955. In the 1990s it was played at ceremonies without words, and on 2 July 2002 a decree approved the text: Mikhas Klimkovich's verses as reworked by Uladzimir Karyzna.
